ELCISS aims to enhance language and communication in secondary school children with primary language and communication impairment through narrative/storytelling and vocabulary enrichment.

The Centre for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer

The Centre for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (CIKT) at City University has provided funding for the ELCISS website and some of the materials for the project.

The Centre for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (CIKT) has a strong culture of working with commercial and not-for-profit organisations who wish to benefit from our expertise, research work and physical resources. The centre has been created so that people can easily find out who at City has the knowledge to help with a particular need/s. The centre is the first point of contact to access these services.

The most fruitful collaborations arise as a result of like-minded people with complementary skills and ideas getting together. To facilitate this, the centre regularly runs a range of networking and seminar events where people can meet academic staff, students and other businesses.  They encourage collaborative links between City and external organisations.

The collaborative links between the Department of Language and Communication Science and the schools and boroughs involved in the ELCISS programme, makes this a very complimentary project for the Centre to support.

The ethos of the CIKT is that “Access to the knowledge found within the UK’s universities can give business the competitive edge it needs to thrive”.

The CIKT has been created so that people can easily find out who at City has the knowledge to help with their particular needs, facilitated by networking and seminar events.  Knowledge transfer activities include:

  • Providing specialist training and consultancy to business and the community
  • The commercialisation of research and development outputs
  • Training and professional services
  • Helping business and the community access student talent
  • Supporting entrepreneurship within City
